Teaching English with Authentic Video - New CPD Course from Ready to Run and NILE

DLA, the company behind the award-winning Ready to Run authentic video catalogue for ELT and NILE, one of the world’s leading providers of teacher training and development for the English sector, are collaborating on a new CPD course on Teaching English with Authentic Video.  The course will be launched in early 2023 and will lead to a certificate accredited by NILE-DLA.

The course will be delivered online and will require approximately 10 hours of study to complete. It is being launched to meet growing demand in the ELT sector for training specific to video use in online, blended and classroom teaching.

Stephen Haggard, cofounder of DLA said: “Teachers are looking for professional expertise in using video with classes, because they know that this is now the most effective way to get ELT students learning. We particularly want to help the community use authentic video, which is the most relatable and accessible media for today’s classrooms”

The course will focus on one of the fastest growing styles of video used in English language learning - authentic video. Understanding the benefits and challenges of using authentic video will be a key output from the course. Teachers taking the course will work with a selection of specially curated Ready to Run videos.

The course will be written and developed by Elena Deleyto, DLA’s Head of Product, and an  expert on video pedagogy. She says taking the course will be a valuable addition to a teacher’s professional skills:

“As publishers and course designers scramble to match the growing demand for quality video in language learning, teachers will need to know just just how much they can do with it, taking it from an enhanced listening comprehension asset to the springboard for confidence building, thinking skills development and learner autonomy quality language video can be.”

The course launch date will be announced by NILE and DLA in the new year and it will be available through NILE online and other channels.
