ECO Poem: Without…
Rivers without fish.
Skies without birds.
Flowers without bees.
Gardens without butterflies.
Trees without fruit.
Fields without crops.
Hillsides without trees.
Nests without eggs.
What have we done?
Polar bears without ice.
Orang-outans without trees.
Herons without fish.
Dusk without bats.
Summer without insects.
Autumn without harvests.
Spring without birdsong.
Winter without frost.
What have we done?
Shops without goods.
Homes without power.
Children without parents.
Babies without milk.
Bowls without rice.
Wells without water.
Barns without animals.
Husks without grain.
What have we done?
Houses full of floods.
Woodlands full of flames.
Valleys full of sludge.
Meadows scorched by sun.
Beaches full of sewage.
Meat full of hormones.
Air full of fumes.
Oceans full of plastic.
What have they done?
Politicians full of lies.
Executives full of greed.
Lawyers full of fees.
Stockbrokers full of shares.
Newspapers full of garbage,
Advertisements full of guile.
Internet full of trivia.
Facebook full of ‘likes’.
What have they done?
Eyes without tears.
Hearts without pity.
Faces without smiles.
Voices without warmth.
Minds without thoughts.
Life without friends.
Nights without sleep.
Lives without hope.
What have we all done?
And we have not even begun
To undo what we have done.
